Resilience and the relationship between physical and mental health

Access via our resource bundle

In this lesson, young people learn skills in mindfulness and resilience. They also gain an understanding of mental health in a way that is de-stigmatising. This is achieved through audio-track listening, class discussions and reflections.

What's included?

In this lesson pupils explore:

  • Stigmas that exist in relation to mental health that don’t exist in the same way when talking about physical health

  • Myths and facts about mental health

  • Realistic and achievable ways of developing resilience

  • Lesson PowerPoint

A ready to go, structured and well-resourced powerpoint with a variety of strategies and activities

  • Guided audio-track

An audio track, adapted from our NHS-approved adult audio track revisits mindfulness

  • Pupil Booklet

Pupils can work through a downloadable, printable booklet as the lesson is taught so that they can record their thoughts and reflections.

  • Class discussions

Pupils can take part in discussions, as a class or in pairs or small groups. Teachers and pupils have both reported that these class discussions are unique, engaging and a way for the class to understand each other better.

What are the benefits?

We explore stereotypes that pupils may have used or heard themselves in relation to mental health to help to make them feel more comfortable talking about it. Pupils learn that everyone can challenge themselves to step out of their comfort zone to develop themselves and live a happier, healthier life.
