In this lesson, young people will begin to set goals for their future and learn how they can achieve their goals, by finding good things from their past as well as understanding expectations hopefulness.

What's included?

In this lesson pupils are encouraged to begin to set goals for their future and:

  • Learn the difference between aspirations and expectations and the relationship they have with one another

  • Reflect on the impact that other people’s expectations of us can have on our wellbeing and how to manage that

  • Learn what it means to be hopeful and how having hope can help us to set and achieve goals

  • Lesson PowerPoint

    A ready to go, structured and well-resourced powerpoint with a variety of strategies and activities on aspirations and expectations.

  • Guided audio-track

    An audio track, adapted from our NHS-approved adult audio track, invites young people to find good things from their past

  • Pupil booklet

    Pupils can work through a downloadable, printable booklet as the lesson is taught so that they can record their thoughts and reflections.

  • Class discussions

    Pupils can take part in discussions, as a class or in pairs or small groups. Teachers and pupils have both reported that these class discussions are unique, engaging and a way for the class to understand each other better.
