What's included?

In this lesson, pupils:

  • Reflect on how successful people have dealt with setbacks before going on to succeed

  • Consider and discuss how pupils themselves respond to challenging situations;

  • Reframe the language used when dealing with setbacks

  • Reframe negative thoughts

  • Lesson PowerPoint

    A ready to go, structured and well-resourced powerpoint with a variety of strategies and activities on overcoming challenges and setbacks.

  • Guided audio-track

    An audio track, adapted from our NHS-approved adult audio track, talks young people through how to build their self-confidence.

  • Pupil booklet

    Pupils can work through a downloadable, printable booklet as the lesson is taught so that they can record their thoughts and reflections.

  • Class discussions

    Pupils can carry out discussions, as a class, in pairs or small groups. We use example scenarios and fictional characters to prevent pupils from feeling like the spotlight is on them, whilst learning about different ways to manage situations that they’re likely to have faced or will face themselves as part of everyday life.
